WELCOME TO HOLNE MOOR SHEPHERDS HUTS
Enjoy the peace and tranquility that Dartmoor has to offer!!
Holne Moor Shepherds Huts is a new venture along side our working Dartmoor hill farm, founded April 2020. Myself Lisa, husband Richard and our 2 young daughters welcome you to come and stay with us and experience the beautiful place where we live. We’re situated on the edge of the southern side of Dartmoor in the parish of Holne, approximately 15 minutes from small local towns of Ashburton & Buckfastleigh where you can join the A38, half way between Exeter & Plymouth.
We are a relatively small beef & sheep farm with currently 40 South Devon cows & 250 Swaledale ewes, all of which will be out grazing the moor at various times of the year.
During the winter the cows are tucked up in our cosy straw filled barns and you are very welcome to come and meet them. We are lambing from mid April through to mid May and our fields will be full of ewes and baby lambs until they return to the moors at the beginning of June.
Our farm is currently in a wildlife friendly stewardship scheme, so there's plenty of wildlife to see and hay meadows to walk through in summer.
WHAT WE OFFER
We currently have 2 new luxury Blackdown shepherds huts which will be ready to welcome visitors from the beginning of July. They're named after our 2 local tors, Bench Tor and Combestone Tor which are both within walking distance.
The huts are sited in a little paddock close to the farmstead, adjacent to the open moorland, with lovely views of Dartmoor and beyond.
Hill walking, a gentle stroll, wild swimming and pure relaxation all accessible without having to get into your car.
Each hut is suitable for upto 2 adults, fully self-contained with a pull-down double bed, seating area, fully equipped kitchen with hob, refrigerator, utensils, crockery and glasses, shower, toilet and a wood burner for those cosy evenings. Outside there will be a firepit, gas bbq, seating and plenty of star gazing opportunities on those clear nights!
SELF CHECK-IN FROM 3PM
ALL YEAR ROUND ACCOMMODATION - PLENTY OF SHEEPS WOOL INSULATION
FIREWOOD SUPPLIED FOR YOUR FIRST NIGHT
THINGS TO DO, PLACES TO GO
We have four local pubs, 2 of which are walkable albeit it's all downhill to get there and uphill to get back:
Church House Inn, Holne 1.1 miles
Tradesmans Arms, Scoriton 1.7 miles
Forest Inn, Hexworthy 3.3 miles
Tavistock Inn, Poundsgate 3.9 miles
Further afield there are various cafes, restaurants and pubs in Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and surrounding areas, serving various meals including breakfast, brunch, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner depending on your requirements.
There are lots of lovely walks straight from the hut, whether it's a gentle stroll around Venford Reservoir or a full day hike across southern dartmoor. Take a look at the south dartmoor walks on www.divinedartmoorwalks.co.uk, we just on the edge of the Combestone Tor and Bench Tor walk.
We overlook the upper dart valley where both canoeing and wild swimming is very popular. Sharrah Pool, a 100m crystal clear stretch of the river dart is known as a great location for a wild swim. This can be accessed via a short car journey and approximately 40 minute walk up the river or you can walk straight from the hut with a more strenuous hike.
We're approximately 50 minutes from the beautiful south devon coast. Bigbury, Dartmouth, Slapton and Torcross are some of our favourite coastal destinations.
